Department libraries play a crucial role in supporting specialized academic programs by providing subject-specific resources and research support. The Department Library of the Japanese Department at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, represents an important intellectual hub for promoting Japanese language, literature, and cultural studies in India. Established within the framework of the Department of Japanese and closely associated with Nippon Bhavana, the library houses a rich collection of books, journals, and cultural materials in Japanese and other languages. This paper examines the historical development, collections, services, and academic role of the department library in fostering Japanese language learning and literary scholarship. The study also highlights the role of Indo-Japanese academic collaboration, cultural exchange activities, and library resources in strengthening Japanese studies in India. The paper concludes that the department library functions not only as an academic resource center but also as a cultural bridge between India and Japan.
