Abstract

A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PLANNED TEACHING PROGRAM ON GERIATRIC CARE SAFETY MEASURES AMONG GERIATRIC POPULATION AT OLD AGE HOME IN DELHI NCR. Abstract Title: A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Program on Geriatric Care Safety Measures Among Geriatric Population at Old Age Home in Delhi NCR Background: Geriatric individuals are more prone to accidents, injuries, and health risks due to physical and cognitive decline. Ensuring their safety, especially in institutional settings like old age homes, is crucial. Educational interventions such as planned teaching programs can improve awareness and promote safe practices among the elderly. Objectives: A) To assess the pre- and post-test knowledge scores regarding geriatric care safety measures. B) To find out the association of post-test knowledge scores with selected demographic variables. C) To find out the correlation between pre- and post-test knowledge scores regarding geriatric care safety measures. Methods: A quantitative research approach with a one-group pre-test post-test design was used. The study was conducted among geriatric residents of selected old age homes in Delhi NCR. A structured questionnaire was administered before and after a planned teaching program. Statistical analysis included paired t-tests, chi-square tests, and Pearson correlation to evaluate the objectives. Results: The findings revealed a significant improvement in post-test knowledge scores compared to pre-test scores. A positive correlation was found between pre- and post-test knowledge levels. Certain demographic variables like education and previous knowledge were found to be significantly associated with post-test knowledge. Conclusion: The planned teaching program was effective in enhancing knowledge regarding geriatric care safety measures. Such interventions are essential to promote safety, prevent accidents, and ensure better quality of life among the elderly in old age homes.
