Histomorphological Characterization and the Role of Special Stains and Immunohistochemistry in Adult and Elderly Renal Pathology
Background: Renal diseases in adults and the elderly encompass diverse inflammatory,
degenerative, and neoplastic processes that may be clinically silent until advanced.
Histopathology, augmented by special stains and immunohistochemistry (IHC), is crucial for
accurate diagnosis and patient management. This study retrospectively and prospectively
analyzed 50 adult and elderly nephrectomy and autopsy kidney specimens to characterize the
histomorphological spectrum and assess the role of special stains and IHC.
