Abstract :
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs continue to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality
worldwide, prompting the search for effective, safe, and complementary therapeutic strategies.
Traditional medicinal systems, particularly Ayurveda, offer a wealth of herbal remedies that have
been used for the prevention, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disorders. Medicinal
plants such as Terminalia arjuna, garlic, cinnamon, guggul, hawthorn, and ginger have
demonstrated significant cardioprotective potential, attributed to their diverse bioactive
constituents. These plants exert beneficial effects through multiple mechanisms, including
antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-atherosclerotic, and lipid-lowering activities. This review
comprehensively evaluates the role of medicinal plants in cardiovascular health, highlighting their
pharmacological mechanisms, therapeutic efficacy, and relevance as adjuncts or alternatives to
conventional pharmacotherapy. Furthermore, the integration of traditional knowledge with modern
scientific research is emphasized, underscoring the need for rigorous phytochemical investigations
and well-designed preclinical and clinical studies to establish efficacy, safety, and toxicity profiles.
Overall, this review underscores the potential of medicinal plants as part of a holistic and
integrative approach to cardiovascular disease management and the development of novel
cardiotherapeutic agents
