ABSTRACT:- In India from thermal power generate the coal combustion residue fly ash in bulk quantities. Disposal of fly ash is the serious environmental concern due to its hazardous properties on the soil which may cause disastrous influence on microbial activity and growth of the plant also. It contains some micro and macronutrients such as Si, Na, Ca, Mg, K, Cd, Pb, Cu, Co, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, B, Zn, and Al, however it lacks nitrogen and phosphorus. Various heavy metal cause adverse effect on soil and plant growth. However, it’s alkaline nature and nutrients, allow the use of fly ash to fortify the soil with Fe, Se and Zn nutrients. From available literature it is found that, bulk amount of fly ash cause change physiochemical and microbial population of soil and growth profile of different types of plant species. In the present review, studies carried out by different researchers is evaluated in regard to the effect of fly ash amelioration of soil to select the optimum dosages of fly ash in soil amelioration process that leads to improved germination and growth performance of plant species chickpea (cicer arietinum), physicochemical and progression of microbial population in amended soil.
