Abstract

The seroprevalence of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) remains a critical marker of public health worldwide, reflecting both the burden of infection and the efficacy of control measures. This investigation examines the seroprevalence of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) among patients with chronic liver disease (CLD), predominantly men aged 41-50. Our findings reveal a 22% seroprevalence for HBV, with jaundice being the most common clinical manifestation, followed by pedal edema, ascites, febrile illness, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and encephalopathy. A significant correlation was observed between HBV infection and these clinical symptoms. Key risk factors for HBV transmission include alcohol and drug abuse, multiple blood transfusions, and a history of surgery or dental procedures. Patients with uncertain or incomplete vaccination status were more susceptible to HBV infection compared to fully immunized individuals. Our study highlights that HBV is the predominant cause of CLD, with a notable seroprevalence of 3.2% for HBV and HCV coinfection.
