Evaluation of knowledge and awareness of periodontal health among tobacco consumers: a questionnaire survey

Abstract—AIM & OBJECTIVE: The questionnaire study was aimed to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of periodontal health among smoking and smokeless tobacco consumers MATERIALS & METHODS: A cross sectional study was carried out using a questionnaire consisting of 15 close ended questions, which was carried out among 110 target respondents. The questions were formulated to evaluate the knowledge and awareness relating to periodontal health among tobacco consumers. RESULTS: The results showed that about 70% of patients who were smokeless tobacco consumers had a poor knowledge of awareness on periodontal health status and about 30% of the respondents were smoking tobacco consumers. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that tobacco consumers had a very poor knowledge of awareness regarding periodontal health.
