Abstract

This paper delineates a Solar and Wind Energy-based Charging Mechanism (SWCM) designed to power the battery packs of electric vehicles (EVs). The renewable charging station integrates both solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and a wind generator. The SWCM significantly mitigates the reliance on fossil fuels for electricity generation, consequently leading to substantial reductions in CO2 and CO emissions. Renewable sources such as wind and solar are characterized using a single-diode model, and analytical modeling is employed for wind energy generation. A simulation model is developed in MATLAB-Simulink for the proposed SWCM. The I-V and PV characteristics of the solar panel are examined across various irradiance levels, while different parameters of the wind turbine are analyzed under 1KW and 3KW loading conditions. Two unidirectional DC to DC converters are linked to ten charging points for EVs. To match the load demand, the system connects to the grid via a three-phase bidirectional DC-AC inverter. The findings demonstrate that the proposed renewable charging mechanism is well-suited for EV charging, thereby fostering a pollution-free environment.
