The sports industry's global significance in the realm of economics has prompted scholars to explore the intricate relationship between a country's success in sports and its economic, demographic, geographic, and social factors. This study delves into the impact of these factors on Olympic performance, utilizing cross-sectional data analysis from the Rio 2016 Olympics involving 207 countries and over 11,000 athletes across 28 sports events. By employing Quantile Regression and Tobit Regression models, the study investigates the influence of economic indicators, demographic characteristics, social factors, and geographic variables on countries' medal rankings in the Olympic Games. The pursuit of Olympic excellence is a multifaceted endeavor influenced by a myriad of economic, demographic, geographic, and social factors. This review paper embarks on a deep dive into the world of sports analytics, unraveling the secrets behind countries' performances on the global stage.
