Synthesis and Characterization of some Barbituric acid Derivatives
BA, Barbituric acid, Chalcones, epoxide Heterocyclic, six membered ring.
Barbituric acid (BA) derivatives (chalcones) (1 and 2) were prepared from the reaction of -methylcinnamaldehyde or terephthalatedehyde with barbituric acid in the presence of acetic acid through the well-known reaction Knoevenagel, which were converted to chalcone epoxides (3 and 4) by the reaction of chalcones (1 and 2) with hydrogen peroxide. The resulting epoxides (3 and 4) were reacted with hydrazine, urea and thiourea through a Michael addition reaction or a Claisen reaction and then cyclization to give five- and six- heterocyclic compounds that contain in their structure the hydroxyl group (3a-c and 4a-c). These compounds were characterized by TLC, melting point and spectroscopic methods such as FTIR, CHNS, 1H-NMR, 13C- NMR, GC-mass and HRMS.
