"In outdoor scenes, the presence of haze, fog, and various atmospheric degradations caused by particles scattering and absorbing light can significantly impact image quality. These effects, while intriguing in some contexts, often need correction, as they can lead to algorithmic errors when assumptions about particle sizes and behavior are violated. Neglecting haze correction, as seen in an automotive navigation system, can have detrimental consequences. Consequently, finding effective methods for haze removal remains an ongoing area of interest in the fields of image processing and computer vision. This task holds critical importance in various outdoor applications, including remote sensing, intelligent vehicles, and underwater imaging. Underwater imaging, in particular, is a vital research area in ocean engineering, as scientists strive to explore the enigmatic underwater world. However, underwater footage suffers from poor visibility and low contrast due to haze, making haze removal a complex challenge due to the lack of known depth information. Haze not only degrades scene contrast but also weakens colors, making its removal a sophisticated and demanding task."
