Abstract

Disaster management has undergone a paradigm shift over the past decade, driven by the rapid evolution of geospatial technologies. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing have emerged as pivotal tools in enhancing preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation strategies. By integrating multi-temporal satellite imagery, spatial analytics, and artificial intelligence, disaster managers can now identify risk zones, monitor evolving hazards, and optimise resource deployment in real-time. Between 2020 and 2023, notable advances in cloud-based geospatial platforms, UAV applications, and high-resolution satellite constellations have transformed the way disasters are monitored and managed. This paper reviews the technological innovations, methodologies, and case applications that define this emerging landscape. It also discusses how geospatial intelligence is fostering predictive resilience, adaptive planning, and multi-hazard early warning systems worldwide.
