Accreditation is the act of granting credit or recognition to an educational institution that maintains suitable standards. The accreditation gives a new sense of direction and identity to the technical institutes. The society can get reliable information about the quality of education offered in an institute through the accreditation. Accreditation promotes new and innovative methods in technical education and it clearly indicates the commitment to excellence. Outcome based education is the basic need of present era. The concept of OBE directly relates the performance of student. The excellent utilization of available resources to their maximum extent and creation of favorable and standard atmosphere and conditions is the only key to implement the concept of OBE. Technical institutes must produce and supply required skilled, dedicated and totally motivated manpower by implementing the philosophy of OBE in technical institutes which results in construction of sound technical platform. This platform can be successfully used for overall development of technocrats. This paper reviews accreditation, philosophy, importance, advantages, OBE and role of technical institutes.
