Women Entrepreneurship, Economic empowerment, Regional Variation.
Women entrepreneurship has gained increasing attention in India as a driver of inclusive economic growth and social empowerment. This study aims to analyze the state of women entrepreneurship in India by based on data sourced primarily from the Economic Census. The study was carried out to examine the present state of women-led enterprises in India and to explore regional variations in the distribution and concentration of women entrepreneurs. The analysis reveals that, out of the 36 States and Union Territories, 21 States/UTs report a higher percentage of female-owned proprietary establishments in rural areas. This higher proportion of women entrepreneurs in rural regions may be attributed to the increasing participation of women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and the expanded reach of micro-credit and Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs) in India.
