Herbal products are the most important source for discovery of new and effective drug molecules. They mainly provide better cultural acceptability, better compatibility with the human body and lesser side effects .Adhatoda vasica is a familiar drug in Ayurvedic system of medicine. The plant has been found to possess varying number of pharmacological activities .The aim of present paper gives an updated information on its phytochemical and pharmacological activities have been isolated from plant. It possesses important activities like antitussive, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory ,abortifacient , antiulcer and various other activities like radiomodulation, hypoglycaemic, cardiovascular protection, antitubercular, antiviral, hepatoprotective, antimutagenic , reproductive action have been reported . It is a valuable antiseptic, antiperiodic and anthelmintic.Several important bioactive compounds have been reported in various part of Adhatoda vasica are essential oils and quinazoline alkaloids. So this plant can form one of the best options for developing novel compounds having medicinal value.
