Abstract

The present era in banking sector is marked by the consolidation of players to gain the market share. The compliance of Basel-3 norms has also acted as catalyst for the consolidation process. The rising level of NPA has led to the dilution of the capital possessed by the banks. It is well established fact now that the PSB’s NPA level contributes to a great extent to this menace. There have been many articles by various experts on Privatization of PSBs as a solution to this problem. However, there are many well known economists who have opposed this measure. This paper looks into various pros and cons of the same and analyzes the issue through the solution oriented approach.
