Abstract: ABSTRACT Background: Due to COVID-19 outbreak, the education system is beholding an extraordinary double shock: temporary school closures in more than 180 countries since March 2020, in order to prevent the spread of the virus and to disclose the fragility of education systems worldwide. The shutdown of schools has not only ceased learning of new things but also made students forget what they had learned earlier. The prolonged shutdown transformed conventional classrooms into online classes due to the contagious nature of the disease. During the pandemic, educational institutions and teachers are exploring and approaching numerous teaching software for students to facilitate online learning. Methods: The study was conducted in the COVID-19 vaccination center of a tertiary care hospital in Mumbai. All the students who came for COVID-19 vaccination were taken up in the study from 1st January to 1st March 2022. All students studying in school/ college and the wiliness to participate in the study were included. Results: Data from 395 students was analyzed. Our study indicates that out of 395 students, 38.73 % of students showed a negative perception of e-learning, whereas 21% of students felt online classes have a better impact on their learning. The majority of the students preferred face-to-face teaching over e-teaching. The key outcome of the result shows that the students are not yet ready for e-learning. Conclusions: The study concludes that students from different colleges /schools have a more negative attitude as compared to a positive attitude towards online classes. Poor internet connection, less group collaboration, and technical difficulties often negatively affect online learning. Though online learning was seen as effective during the COVID-19 pandemic, most students prefer traditional face-to-face learning.
Keywords: COVID-19, online classes, e-learning.
