Abstract: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a common health problem which increases in adolescent girls and young women during their reproductive years. It is one of the most common endocrine disorders of women in reproductive age, with prevalence of 5–10% in different ethnic populations. The present study was carried out to assess the knowledge regarding Polycystic OvarianSyndrome among girls studying in Government Higher Secondary Schools of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The objective was to assess the effect of structured teaching programme on polycystic ovarian syndrome among girls studying in Government Higher Secondary Schools. Investigator adopted quasi-experimental approach for the study and the research design was one group pre-test post-test design. Multistage cluster sampling was used to select 80 students from 2 Government Higher Secondary Schools in Thiruvananthapuram corporation. On the first day pre-test was conducted, following that a structured teaching programme was given and after 7 days, a post-test was conducted by using the same questionnaire. The data were tabulated using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that the percentage of participants with good knowledge score increased from 20 % to 85 %after the structured teaching programme. Mean total knowledge before intervention was 20.5±6.0, which increased to 32.0±5.0 after STP. The findings indicated that the structured teaching programme had significant effect in improving the girl’s knowledge on polycystic ovarian syndrome.
