Gujarat has border with Pakistan in the northwest whereas it is bounded by the Arabian Sea to the south east and in northwest it joined Rajasthan state. In the east it has boundary with Madhay Pradesh and in south with Maharashtra, Union Territory of Dadar Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. It has Narmada river, the longest river followed by the Tapi, Sabarmati etc.Gujarat is also known for Rann of Kutch,a seasonally marshy saline clay desert. Gujarat is divided into 7 agro climatic zones Southern hills (Dang and Valsad),Southern Gujarat, Middle Gujarat,North Gujarat,North west arid, North Saurashtra and South Saurashtra. Rainfall varies in different parts of state and thus the vegetation also differ in differnt parts of Gujarat. Arid zone to high rainfall and mangrove vegetation in marshy land were exists. During the past decades forest cover changes in different parts of state. A detailed change in vegetation is described in the paper.
