Abstract: BENEFITS OF LASER APPLICATION IN THE TREATMENT OF HAEMORRHOIDS OVER STANDARD SURGICAL TREATMENT DR.N.MANICKAVEL,DR.R.GURU PRASAD ,DR.DEEPAK KARUNYAN.V INTRODUCTION Haemorrhoid is most common ailment known , Main symptoms - Bleeding, Pain – Common in Prolapsed Thrombosed Piles,Most common age group 45-65 years, Very Common in pregnant women AIM • Our study deals with 50 patients , Of which 32 Male patients & 18 Females With Gr II & Gr III Haemorrhoids • Period of study for 5 years • Patients were reviewed retrospectively to evaluate post-operative complications • Overall patients satisfaction following laser therapy METHODS Nd-YAG/Diode Laser Used with setting of 10 watts on continuous wave mode. Operated under Spinal / Caudal-Saddle Anesthesia. For Gr I- Photocoagulations of the pedicle of the pile mass . For Gr II & III-Intestitial Laser Application. For Gr IV- Excision using 30 watts pulse wave setting of 0.3 seconds RESULTS Laser Treated Haemorrhoidectomy Patients experienced less pain, No bleeding or Stricture formation on follow up.High Fiber diet advised to prevent Recurrence,Ten days after surgery Laser treated patients had 65% less pain, Painless defecation occurred earlier (5 days ) in Laser treated patients. Post-op drainage was minimal Laser treated patients resumed work earlier, than the standard surgically treated Haemorrhoidectomy patients . CONCLUSION Benefits of Nd-YAG/Diode Laser Arrests bleeding , prolapse & pain Post-op hospital stays is shorter with less complications
