The crystal field parameters (CFPs) of Mn2+ doped magnesium bis (hydrogen maleate) hexahydrate, Mg [C4H304]2.6H20 (MMH) single crystal are evaluated using the superposition model. The zero field splitting parameters (ZFSPs) D and E are determined with the help of perturbation and microscopic spin Hamiltonian (SH) theory. The theoretical ZFSPs D and E are in reasonable agreement with the experimental values obtained from electron paramagnetic resonance. The results show that the Mn2+ ion enters the lattice substitutionally at Mg2+ site in MMH.
