Cosmetic products have a huge impact on the people. the cosmetic ingredients are prevailing day by day and hence there is a need to bring about natural ingredients as many as possible, since our nature is the hidden treasure of various herbs so almost every herb possess a medicinal as well as cosmetic property in it. It is necessary to study them well in order to gain the boon of such naturally occurring agents. One of such shrub is Calytropis gigantea also called as “rui”, “aak”, and “madar” plant. It possess various photochemical characteristics such as alkaloids, flavonoids, etc and pharmacological actions that could be incorporated into the cosmetic products. This would be useful not only to the cosmetic industry but also would be replacing the impact of synthetic ingredients on the surroundings. This article deals with the study of Ayurvedic, medicinal and pharmacological properties of calytropis and its prospective use in the field of cosmetics.
