Abstract:
Shakespeare's female characters are examined and contrasted from a feminist perspective in this study. The reading, while feminist in intent, is not a fully developed feminist reading of Shakespeare's functions. The societal circumstances and sexist actions of the male characters, as well as how they impact the lives of the female characters, are the main subjects of the study. The relationships between the male and female characters are often characterized by victimization—both psychologically and physically—as well as strong emotions. Men let their egos control them, hurt their own emotions, and ruin good-hearted women who are coerced into becoming the objects of political machinations. Shakespeare's representation of women as brave, self-reliant, and not susceptible to men's patriarchal behavior at the period is another area of analysis explored in this work. He a man of his time.
