Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction Among the college-going students, skin conditions like acne, pigmentation, skin dryness and skin oiliness are very common. This may due to many factors like their sleep patterns, stress level, physical activity level, diet and other lifestyle factors. The purpose of this study is to identify how prevalent are these skin issues and to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention drink, Basil seeds cucumber lemonade. This is a refreshing drink which helps in reducing inflammation, contributes in skin hydration and contains essential nutrients like potassium, magnesium and vitamin C. Methodology It is a cross-sectional study performed using a structured questionnaire to assess the prevalence of the skin issues. A dietary intervention was then carried out by serving a skin healthy drink to the sample population for more than 10 days to assess the effectiveness of the drink on skin health. To measure the changes in the skin condition, pre and post intervention questionnaires were used. The overall data was analysed by using SPSS, Chi-square tests and ANOVA test. Results The research shows that around 67.8% of students experienced skin issues among which acne was most common. It showed that diet, hydration, and life style factors like seep, stress and physical activity levels had a substantial influence on the skin health. After the intervention, majority of the participants reported improvements. About 68% improvement in skin smoothness, reduction in dryness or oiliness and slight lightening of pigmentation. The statistical analysis indicated some significant associations, while others showed no strong relation. Conclusion The study reveals that among college-going students, skin issues are highly prevalent and it is mostly due to the lifestyle factors and eating habits. The intervention demonstrated significant improvements in the skin texture, acne reduction, skin hydration and brightening of the skin. This suggests that simple dietary changes can enhance skin health.
