Comparative magnetic studies of Zn-substituted spinel ferrite Fe2 9Zn0 1O4 (Zn50) and Fe2.2Co0.8O4 (Co50) of average size of ~5 nm are performed. The Zn50 sample shows the linear variation of the blocking temperature of 80K and M-H curve of Zn50 at 21 K suggests that there is a small but non-zero coercivity of 35 Oe. The 5 nm sample Co50 is largely in superparamagnetic state at 300 K and its blocking temperature is ~260 K in the presence of a low magnetic field. M-H curve of Co50 at 85 K suggests that there is a high non-zero coercivity as compared to Zn50.
