The present work aims to design and evaluate floating microballoons to achieve prolonged gastric retention and controlled drug release. Microballoons were prepared using the emulsion solvent diffusion method, incorporating ethyl cellulose as a release-controlling polymer and calcium silicate as a buoyancy enhancer. The developed formulations were evaluated for their micromeritic properties, particle size, percentage yield, buoyancy behaviour, in vitro drug release, and surface morphology. The optimised formulation demonstrated excellent floating ability for more than 12 hours, with a sustained drug release pattern extending up to 12 hours. Scanning electron microscopy confirmed a spherical shape with a hollow core, which contributes to their low density and buoyant capacity.
