Yoga in the Pre-Vedic Era, Yoga in the Vedic Era, Yoga in the Post-Vedic Era, Yoga in the Puranas, Yoga in the Modern Era.
The study of yoga presents significant challenges, particularly concerning the historical development of its early forms in India. This research endeavours to elucidate the evolution of yoga from the pre-Vedic period to the present. The objective is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the history of yoga, with an emphasis on its foundational ethos. A thorough literature review was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, the Ministry of AYUSH, and Sodha Ganga. This study explores the connections between yoga and various metaphysical concepts, literature, and their diverse aspects, concluding that contemporary yoga practices generally do not substantially deviate from the ethos of yoga as depicted in ancient Indian texts.
