Abstract

Traffic congestion in cities increases travel time, fuel use, and pollution. Traditional traffic lights use fixed timers, causing delays. This project develops a smart system that adjusts signals based on traffic. A USB webcam captures live road images. YOLOv5 detects and counts vehicles. Arduino UNO controls signals for better traffic flow. IR sensors improve accuracy in low light. An OLED display shows signals and countdowns. This system reduces wait times and stoppages. Machine learning and microcontrollers make it cost-effective. It enhances smart city infrastructure and reduces congestion.
