Public Sector Banks, Liquidity Ratio, Efficiency Ratios, Solvency Ratio
This study examines the financial performance and efficiency of selected public sector banks in India by analyzing key financial ratios, including efficiency, solvency, liquidity, profitability, and activity ratios. The research focuses on banks such as the State Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, and Canara Bank over a five-year period. The efficiency ratios highlight how effectively these banks manage their resources, with inventory turnover and asset utilization showing steady improvement for most institutions. Solvency ratios indicate that while all banks maintain a relatively stable debt-to-asset ratio, their heavy reliance on debt financing necessitates prudent risk management. Liquidity analysis reveals varying levels of short-term financial stability, with SBI showing lower liquidity ratios compared to other banks like Indian Overseas Bank and Canara Bank, which demonstrate higher liquidity reserves. Profitability ratios indicate an overall upward trend in net profit margins, reflecting improved cost efficiency and revenue generation. However, fluctuations in operating profit margins suggest that some banks face cost pressures impacting their long-term profitability. Activity ratios, including debtor and creditor turnover, further illustrate how efficiently banks manage their working capital, with variations among institutions. The findings underscore the importance of financial management strategies in ensuring long-term sustainability and competitiveness in the banking sector
