The Strength-Based Approach: Its Effectiveness in the Holistic Performance of Learners

Education sector has broad concepts; individual differences tend to be overlooked. This put much emphasis on individual strengths on how it must be celebrated, recognized, and valued; how it can nurture a being to reach one’s fullest potential. This study investigates the implementation of a strength-based approach to education within the Gubat North District, involving forty participants among ten schools, each represented by school heads and three teachers. The study employed qualitative research which utilized open-ended four-part survey questionnaire, facilitating the collection and analysis of data regarding educational practices and learner capabilities. Findings indicate that assessing learners' strengths is a nuanced process requiring diverse tools and collaborative methodologies among educators, which enhances learner engagement and fosters a supportive educational environment. The analysis highlights that the strength-based approach bolsters students' motivation, self-esteem, and emotional resilience while promoting an inclusive and effective learning atmosphere. However, the implementation of this approach faces challenges in recognizing diverse strengths amid varying learning styles. The "I Am Empowered" program exemplifies a commitment to holistic learner development by celebrating individual talents and fostering community engagement through the THRIVE framework which involves carefully crafted activities. Recommendations emphasize the need for personalized assessments, flexible activities to discover interests, and ongoing communication with parents to support students’ emotional and motivational needs. Furthermore, upskilling teachers and school heads in identifying student strengths is vital for effective education. This study underscores the transformative potential of strength-based methodologies in contributing to personalized learning experiences, ultimately enhancing educational outcomes.
