The research focuses on finding the significance of the role of bullying in the levels of individual resilience and psychological well-being of college-going female students. The participants were chosen from the geographical location of Chennai district in Tamil Nadu. Simple random sampling was performed for participant selection and about three hundred and ten female students pursuing their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees participated in the study. The participants were divided into two groups based on whether they had faced bullying in their college or never faced it. Students who have experienced bullying in college are clustered as group A and students who have never faced bullying in college are categorized as group B in the study. Each group has an equal number of participants of hundred and fifty-five students.
The statistical analysis used includes Pearson’s correlational analysis to find the correlation between resilience and psychological well-being separately in the two groups- A and B, this helps to know the difference in the nature of correlation between these variables in adverse situations. Then, independent t-test was conducted on resilience and psychological well-being of the two groups. The results found that there is a weak positive correlation between resilience and psychological well-being in group B students who have not faced bullying whereas, in group A students who have faced bullying, the correlation between resilience and psychological well-being is moderate. This shows some difference in the strength of the correlation between these 2 variables in adverse situations. In independent t-test, there are no statistically significant differences found in the levels of resilience and psychological well-being of group A and group B students. This indicates that bullying doesn’t have any significant role on the individual resilience and well-being based on this research. Since, this is done with female participants alone, the generalization of the findings for other genders requires further research. Future studies can focus on finding the combined role of protective factors for different genders.
