| Abstract: | The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly impacted the automotive industry, heralding a new era of driverless and autonomous vehicles. This paper explores the historical development of AI in automobiles, from early experiments in the 1920s to the sophisticated AI-driven systems of today. It examines the various applications of AI, such as computer vision for defect detection, predictive maintenance, and AI-powered robots enhancing manufacturing efficiency. The classification of autonomous vehicle levels, from basic driver assistance to full autonomy, is discussed along with the core AI algorithms—regression, clustering, and decision networks—that enable these advancements. Despite the promising benefits, several challenges, including data management, safety, cybersecurity, and the integration of AI into existing systems, remain to be addressed. Looking ahead, the paper highlights the potential of AI to revolutionize the automotive industry further, enhancing vehicle safety, efficiency, and driving experiences, while also noting the ethical and societal implications that accompany these technological advancements. |
