This study reports a metagenomic approach, to investigate the microbial diversity of soils contaminated with different industrial effluents. Three different contaminated soil samples were collected from different industrial sites or Rakholi, Surangi and Kherdi, in Silvassa region. Total soil DNA was extracted and whole genome sequencing Library was prepared and amplified using universal primers. The genomic library was quantified and validated by Qubit and 4150 Tapestation system, followed by sequencing and bioinformatic analysis of metagenome, to identify microbial diversity in the contaminated soil. Microbial diversity analysis represented the dominance of Pseudomonadota, Actinomycetota, Bacillota, Myxococcota, Acidobacteriota and Thermodesulfobacteriota in all the three metagenomes. Presence of pollutant degrading microbes such as Bacillus, Clostridium, Candidatus Entotheonella, Pseudomonas and Desulforomonas strongly indicates their bioremediation ability. KEGG and COG annotated main functional categories included carbohydrate metabolism, amino acids metabolism, and protein metabolism. This study explored the still unexplored soil bacterial diversity, through metagenomic approach, and is the first ever report for the region of Silvassa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, India. Further deep investigation shall reveal novel species or proteins produced by microbial community, with potential applications towards sustainable environment.
