FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL LIPSTICK CONTAINING RATANJOT, ANNATTO AND ITS MIXTURE AS NATURAL COLOURANT

Abstract :- Ratanjot:-Alkana tinctoria (Family: Boraginaceae) is a herb indeginous to the mediterranian region. The study aims at separation of several reddish pigments from the root barks of this plant and incorporation into lipsticks. The phyto-constituents were extracted initially using methanol followed by solubilizing the concentrated extract in methanol. Two types viz. methanol soluble and methanol insoluble dyes were separated. Lipsticks were formulated using various concentration of the extracted dyes. Several organoleptic and physico-chemical parameters such as color, odor, size, color of applied area, dimensions, water resistance, load test, softening point and melting points were evaluated. Moreover, lipsticks formulated of methanol soluble fraction exhibited more durability (in terms of breaking point). The methanol soluble fraction of extract of bark of Alkana tinctoria can be effectively incorporated for the development of herbal lipsticks or colorants. Bixa :- The most popular application of lipstick formulas is to accentuate the lips' natural attractiveness and provide a glamorous touch to cosmetics. The purpose and goals of the endeavor were to create natural lipsticks utilizing colored pigments derived from Bixa orellana Linn seeds. The lipsticks were judged to be a suitable product to provide beautiful beauty after their organoleptic features, such as spreading, hardness, shine, and gloss, were assessed. Owing to the numerous negative effects of the synthetic preparations now on the market, we developed the current effort to create a herbal lipstick that has few to no side effects and can be widely utilized by the women in our communities with great confidence and happiness.
