Women empowerment is vital for socioeconomic development and has become imperative. The inclusive development of a nation is impossible without the active involvement of women. In developing nations like India, bringing women into mainstream of development is challenging (Sarania, 2015)[1]. The aim of 1st World conference on Women and UN Declaration of the Decade of Women 1975-85was to empower women by combating gender discrimination and offer prospects contributing in development activities so that their role would be improved. After independence, Indian law provided several openings, schemes and programs to women in the area of education, service and political spheres for the upliftment of women. The present study deals with the impact of government’s initiatives on the women empowerment. The study was carried out in two development block i.e. Drang block and Seraj block of District Mandi of Himachal Pradesh. The present study reveals the impacts of various schemes on the w.r.t. the change occurred in their life and social status.
