The building material was a boon to the Jaisalmer architects, provided by nature of the local variety of fine grained buff and yellow sand stone, the region abounds in, the latter, achoicest shade, predominantly used in monuments of medieval period was particularly suited to the desert landscape. A formation of Jurassic age this best available variety locally known as “pun patthar” had been quarried from Kanadi, Moolsagar and Jethwai, all within the vicinity of the capital city which still meet the local demand for construction of houses.
