Abstract

In the present times, the Central Asian Republics are at the forefront of global geopolitics. More than one factor is responsible for this dramatic change. Its location is the first factor that makes it a geographical crossroad. The Central Asian region is sandwiched between Europe, Russia, and China. China has been reasserting its role as a regional hegemon through various initiatives such as the belt and road project. The second factor is its natural resources. Central Asia has the third-largest oil and gas reserve on the planet which is leading to a world scramble in the region. The third factor is what political scientists have termed as ‘great power chauvinism’ between the USA and Russia. There is a growing convergence between India and Central Asia, which is a positive sign of growth in the sphere of international relations for both parties.
