Abstract: The pelvis is the link between the trunk and the lower limbs and it is believed to be sexually dimorphic. This study is aimed at estimating sex using Kelley’s Index, Acetabular width and depth, Greater Sciatic Notch Width and Depth. The Width of Acetabulum which is the measured distance from the Lateral sourcil (Acetabular lip) below the anterior inferior iliac spine to the Teardrop of acetabulum. Depth of Acetabulum which is the distance measured from the base line of the width of acetabulum (at right angle) to the deepest point of acetabulum. Greater Sciatic Notch Width was measured as the distance from the piriformis tubercle (posterior section A) to the Ischia spine tip (anterior section B). Width is the distance (AB).Greater Sciatic Notch Depth (CD) is the maximum depth is the distance measured from the baseline of (AB) C to the point D, which is the deepest part of the notch. Kelley’s Index was calculated as by dividing the greater sciatic notch width by the acetabular width multiplied by 100. The results indicate mean values of Sciatic Notch Width for males and females as 46.62±0.24 and 54.45±0.32. The Sciatic notch depth for males and female as 13.62±0.06 and 15.92±0.12 .The mean Acetabular width for males and females as 55.47±0.12 and 51.80±0.14. Acetabular depth as 25.79±0.07 and 26.25±0.12 for males and females.. The mean Kelley Index is 83.76±0.27 for males and 105.21±0.58 for females. There is statistically significant difference in all the parameters (p< 0.05). The results of all the pelvic traits has shown to be sexually dimorphic in the South-South Nigerian population. We recommend that Kelley’s Rule of Thumb is a good sex discriminant for medico- legal issues.
