Abstract:
Immunosuppressants are gaining in popularity in recent years as a result of their important contribution to the medical and pharma industries and huge demand in the global market. Rapamycin (sirolimus) is an immunosuppressive drug that also has antitumor antifungal, anti-aging, and neuroprotective properties. Many strains of Streptomyces hygroscopicus use a submerged fermentation approach to produce rapamycin. Albeit the wild strain's production capacity is extremely low, therefore to enhance the production of rapamycin a thorough investigation of media optimization, bioprocess engineering parameters is required to address this issue. This review emphasizes the remarkable approaches of media optimization, statistical approach, and studies on gene level to scale up the titer of rapamycin.
