| Abstract: | The banking sector is the backbone of modern business. A well-organized banking system is necessary for a country's economic development. In India, all commercial banks, with the exception of regional rural banks and local banks, became Basel II compliant as of 31 March 2009. Banks, which are fundamental components of the financial system, are the most effective way to generate cash flow in the markets. At the same time, like many financial services, the banking sector is facing a rapidly changing market, new technologies, economic fears, ugly competition and, in particular, the demands of more customers. The central objective of the study is empirically to examine the role of Indian banks in capital formation and economic growth. The research is based on secondary data that provide results on commercial banks and how useful it is in economic development. Analysis of data from the 47 commercial banks in India revealed an increase in the budget for loans made each year. It is therefore recommended that monetary authorities strive to effectively manage the maximum amount of bank lending by banks. This policy will most likely lead to an increase in investment activity, which will increase the investment in India needed for its investments in the real sector and its industrial growth. |
