Abstract: Abstract _WASH is related to any country's concern about the health of its people. It becomes the right of the citizen to acquire safe water, sanitation, and hygiene measures. WASH is among the most crucial for humans to create a healthy life. WASH interventions aim to prevent and control the transmission of bacteria, viruses, and parasites. The significance of water and sanitation facilities has been reflected within the estimation of human advancement and their incorporation in a thousand years of Improvement Objectives (MDGs). Countries like South Sudan in the eastern part of Africa are facing the problem of low HDI. It is found to be 0.387, which is termed as low. The probable causes for such a low HDI in upper Nile state, Malakal are due to the widespread destruction during and after the twenty-one years of war with Sudan that have led to massive poverty among the people, widespread deficiency disease, high child and kid mortality rates, low expectancy, deficient infrastructure, poor instructional structures and therefore the lack of convenience of basic medical facilities. Malakal, one of the states in the north-eastern part of South Sudan. To improve public health, the government is struggling to implement an efficient WASH strategy. A try has been made to evaluate its sustainability as well as the customer’s satisfaction with the WASH-related services. WASH Sustainability Index (WASH_SI) is evaluated using the financial, institutional, management, and technological indicators. These indicators impact the social, economy, and environment of the state, which are the grounds of sustainable development. The customer’s satisfaction is evaluated through a modified SERVQUAL under five dimensions i.e. Tangibility (4 questions), Reliability (5 questions), Responsiveness (4 questions), Assurance (4 questions), and Empathy (5 questions). A Google-based questionnaire was carried out to collect information about the existing WASH conditions in the state. The questionnaire comprises of 31 questions related to WASH maintainability and 22 questions related to the customer’s fulfillment. The result of CSI indicates that the sanitation service meets unsatisfied satisfaction (48 %) level of public expectation in Malakal city The HDI is evaluated based on life expectancy, education rate, and the income level of the people in the states.
