Abstract:

Rani Channamma University Belagavi --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Abstract: Introduction: Banks play a catalytic role in promoting the economic prosperity of the district and the country as whole. Flow of timely and adequate credit to potential areas is of crucial importance. Review of literature: J D Jam (1971) The Role of Commercial banks in financing agriculture' suggested that for extending quicker and easily available, timely credit to the farmers at lesser cost, a credit information bureau must be set up in each village. Objectives of Study: The analyse the role of Nationalized Banks in the development of agriculture . Need for study: Improve the need for increased participation of Nationalized Banks in the backward areas. Methodology of study: Secondary data regarding the target and achievement of banks under study were obtained from the Annual Credit Plan report of Lead bank in Bagalkot from 2013-14 to 2018-19. Selection of banks there were 33 banks with 285 branches in the district out of these 17 public sectors with 94 branches. Reference of the period: The reference period for the field investigation was 2013-14 and the interviews of nationalization banks conducted in the year 2013-14 in Bagalkot District. Research design: The variables related to the study are well established, the research fits objectives as well as a descriptive research design and analyses the role of Nationalized Banks in the development of agriculture. Sources of data: The present study is based on the secondary data collected from Annual Credit Plans of the Bagalkot district , District Statistical Office, Bagalkot, Potential linked plans prepared by NABARD pertaining to Bagalkot, the officials of the nationalized banks and the lead bank officials. Statistical Tools: Secondary data are analysed by using appropriate statistical tools such as percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and co-efficient of variation. Hypotheses of the Study: H0: Nationalized banks have not developed agriculture significantly in the rural areas of Bagalkot District and H1: Nationalized banks have developed agriculture significantly in the rural areas of Bagalkot District Data analysis: Data analysis on various factors of role of Nationalized Banks in the development of agriculture. Finding and conclusion: To find out nationalized banks used to agriculture for development of rural areas and provision of banking facilities is one of the important infrastructure facilities that influences the economic development of rural masses in the country.
