Abstract: The principal goal of this study was to determine the efficacy of synthetic jet for convective heat transfer using CFD. Three-dimensional finite volume approach is applied in order to capture the complex time dependent flow field and temperature profile produced by periodic ejection-suction at high frequencies by the synthetic jet. The results were used to compute heat transfer coefficient. The present computational results are validated with an experimental study of impinging jet available in open literature. The mechanism of heat transfer was explained with the help of flow field and the thermal profile obtained in the present study. The study can further lead to design and optimization of synthetic jet based cooling systems for militarized electronic devices of modern times.
